Types of Revision Rhinoplasty
Each patient brings a unique set of challenges, therefore Dr. Edween will carefully devise a plan to revise and reconstruct the defects of, while making sure the breathing function of your nose remains intact. The reconstruction revisions necessary may require removing or adding some cartilage or bone, and or reshaping the cartilages of the nose. Depending on the deformity, cartilage support and grafts may be necessary to prevent the nose from collapsing.
The Revision Rhinoplasty Procedure
A revision rhinoplasty surgery most commonly will be approached as an open procedure. An incision is placed midline underneath the tip of the nose on the columella, which is the thin structure that lies between the nostrils. This incision allows Dr. Edween to visualize your underlying nose structure and maximally evaluate the alterations and structural changes of your previous nose surgery.
What to expect
It is important to understand that a revision surgery will take longer to heal and visualize changes when compared to your original surgery. Final results will depend on the extent of your reconstructive surgery and how much existing scar you have. You will have swelling that may go up and down for the first few years and your nose will continue to change as the swelling resolves.
