Platelet-Rich Plasma

What is PRP Therapy?

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy is a minimally invasive rejuvenation treatment using factors in your own blood to boost collagen production and return skin to a more youthful looking appearance. Your own blood is processed to harvest your unique PRP which then sends signals to smooth out wrinkles, even skin tone and create a healthy complexion. PRP has many cosmetic indications and can be combined with other treatments, such as Morpheus8 microneeding to maximize and enhance the results of your skin rejuvenation.

Benefits of PRP Therapy

For years, platelet-rich plasma has been an integral part in treating wounds and injuries to help speed the healing process. As a cosmetic skin rejuvenation treatment, it offers the following benefits:

  • No risk of adverse reaction
  • In-office procedure
  • Minimal downtime or recovery
  • Results last about a year

Who is an Ideal Candidate for PRP Therapy?

If you have noticeable fine lines and wrinkles as well as skin with little to no elasticity and other skin imperfections, you may be a candidate for PRP therapy. Since it uses your own blood, it is safe on all skin types with no risk of allergic or negative reaction.

What Should I Expect During My PRP Therapy?

The first step in PRP therapy treatment, Dr. Edween will draw a small amount of your blood is into a tube. Once collected the blood is processed to separate stem cells and platelets from the rest of the blood. The result is protein-rich plasma, which is then prepared for placement into the targeted areas with skin imperfections.

There is minimal pain in this procedure; however, if necessary, a numbing cream can be applied to the areas receiving injections. The entire process is quick taking no more than hour to complete. If PRP therapy is combined with other treatments such as Morpheus8 microneedling, it may take more time.

What to Expect After PRP Therapy

Immediately following PRP therapy, there is typically some redness and swelling at the injection sites for the first few days, which quickly resolves itself. Several treatments are typically recommended with four to eight weeks between each treatment to allow for healing.

When Will I See the Results?

Since PRP therapy works with your body to boost collagen injections, it takes a few weeks for the results to reveal themselves. Once complete, the results last for about a year.
