Restore and Rejuvenate
As seen on Discovery Health “Plastic Surgery Beverly Hills”, a rejuvenated and refreshed appearance is achieved through a facelift, necklift, upper and lower blepharoplasty.
It seems that everyone, at some point between their 40’s and 50s, has looked into the mirror and pulled back the sagging skin around their face and eyes. The signs of aging become increasingly apparent as the fullness in the face decreases through volume loss and the skin and folds start sagging. Facial fillers are initially a quick fix to help to fill the facial folds and lines, however with continued gravity and age the exploration into surgical options is inevitable.
Dr. Edween has always emphasized natural rejuvenation, and understands that as the signs of aging begin to show, many want something done, but are scared to look unnatural. During your consultation Dr. Edween with review the different options you have on how to naturally rejuvenate ones face. Youth restoring procedures can range from harvesting your own fat, transferring it back by restoring volume with microfat and nanofat, to customized face lifting procedures specifically aimed at lift the area of sagging.
What is a Facelift?
A Facelift is a surgical procedure that repositions sagging muscles, fat and tissue combined with reducing of excess skin of the face, jaw line and neck. There are specific surgical procedures that lift distinct anatomical areas, which may include the mid face, jaw line, neck, or a combination of them. For instance, a forehead/brow lift corrects the sagging skin from the corner of the eyes upward to the eyebrows and forehead, can be combined with a midface lift surgery that lifts the mid face and cheek area. If a comprehensive rejuvenation is desired, then several procedures, including fat transfer, blepharoplasty, browlift, full facelift and necklift may be necessary for total rejuvenation to a more youthful appearance. Since individual areas of the face age at a different rates, Dr. Edween will customize your facial surgery to restore your facial balance, so all the parts of the face appear to be aging at the same time.
The goal of restoring your natural looks involves placing volume back into the right places, and tightening the skin to restore natural contours. If the skin is stretched too tight, a wind tunnel or unnatural outcome will result, a look that was commonly seen in years past. Patients have evolved to understand that rejuvenation is not about overstretching and tightly pulling out each line and wrinkle. Nowadays natural rejuvenation is about lifting areas that have lost volume. A successful natural outcome is when patients look rested and refreshed, without the telltale signs of surgery. Dr. Edween is a well-trained surgeon with a critical artistic eye who states “My patients don’t want the tell tale signs of a facelift, they just simply want to look refreshed.”
Right now there are many different techniques and options to customize facial rejuvenation depending a patients anatomy, specific needs and desires. There are facelift techniques with catchy trade names and numerous advertisements in the name of facial rejuvenation, and it becomes confusing to figure which works the best. In fact, each surgeon has their several variations to how they perform a facelift, depending on the patient’s anatomy and needs.

For those who want to reverse their diminished facial volume and prominent wrinkles without undergoing an invasive facelift, Dr. Edween offers patients a non-surgical facelift alternative.
By using non-invasive laser and energy devices, Dr. Edween’s minimally invasive techniques can help you age beautifully and recapture a more youthful appearance by lifting the eyebrows, cheeks, and jowls. The non-surgical facelift is safe and provides impressive results, without the pain or longer downtime of traditional facelift surgery.
Necklift
In general, a facelift usually extends below the skin to address the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) by repositioning underlying facial muscles and removing any excess skin. A truly complete and comprehensive facelift with the most natural outcome will lift tissues to their original position, reduce excess skin and restore volume loss to the face. A full facelift incision begins in the temporal area above the ear, follows the contour of the cartilage of the ear, curves around the earlobe and continues up the back of the fades into the hairline. Dr. Edween hides the incision within natural creases and the hairline, so patients can still wear their hair back, without feeling self-conscious about their scars.
What to Expect
Surgery is performed as an outpatient, it is recommended that you stay in an approved recovery facility after the procedure.
An anesthesiologist will provide either a general or IV sedation anesthetic
Bruising and swelling are to be expected after the procedure, it may take months for all the swelling to go down and about 6 months for the scars to fade.
You may have a compression head garment or a drain depending on your type of procedure. The compression garment controls swelling and supports the newly sculpted skin and tissues.
Factors that influence the speed of healing include patient’s skin, general medical health, medications, physical fitness as well as one underlying emotional attitude.
Exercise is prohibited until about 4-6 weeks, and only after Dr. Edween has evaluated your healing progress.
Recommended recovery time is on average 14 days. On day 14 most of the swelling has subsided to the point that patients may wear makeup, color their hair and return to work and their social activities. Most patients feel confident enough to start enjoying their new youthful look after about a month.
How Long Does it Last?
Will I have to get this done again? Once you have had a facelift, time continues to pass, age progresses and gravity continues to take its toll. Recognize that at 10 years you will not look as youthful as 4 to 5 years after surgery, but you will be aging gracefully, and looking younger than if you had not had the procedure.
As time passes, unwanted age related changes begin to surface and patients may wish to maintain the structure of your face and neck to a more youthful appearance. Secondary facelifts or small revision “tuck-up” procedures may be performed in 8-10 years after the original procedure.

FAQ
A facelift is a form of cosmetic procedure that essentially lifts up and pulls the patient’s skin tighter. It works to give the patient a more youthful look while removing any signs of aging.
They are performed in order to give the patient a more youthful appearance and smooth fine lines and wrinkles.
It does, though the scar is inconspicuous and can be hidden by hair growth. The incision begins at the front of your ear, extends up to the hairline, and ends at your lower scalp.
As with any surgery, risk is inevitable. With us, however, we do whatever we can to minimize any risks associated with surgery.
Sometimes they can. By stretching and smoothing the skin, facelifts can erase shallow acne scars. However, some acne scars are too deep to be eliminated by this method.
It isn’t unusual for a facelift to result in temporary hair loss or distortion of the hairline. However, this will depend on the type of procedure, your health, and the placement of the incisions. Usually, forehead lifts and upper-face lifts are most associated with hair loss.
There is always a small chance that a facelift can fall, though the risk of falling can be reduced by avoiding certain behaviors. Heavy smoking, for example, since it deteriorates the quality of the skin, increases the risk of falling. After the surgery, make sure to follow the prescribed dos and don’ts, such as keeping your skin out of the skin while it heals.
Experienced surgeons can help to reduce the risk of falling.
Absolutely! When you choose an experienced and professional surgeon, they will ensure that your surgery results in the best natural-looking face possible. After your surgery with Dr. Edween and our team, you will have youthful skin without sagging or wrinkles.
The answer to this question is based on the individual patient and the look they are aiming for. Though it requires a slightly more intensive surgery, the deep plane facelift is the one that brings the best and most long-lasting results. During this procedure, the surgeon lifts the layer beneath the muscle. Then, they attach the skin to the muscle layers. In this way, a youthful contour is achieved.
