Short Scar Facelift in Beverly Hills

Reverse the Aging Process

Facial sag is a natural part of the aging process. As we enter middle age, our faces lose some of their volume and gravity does its work, dragging our skin down into hanging folds. Cheeks appear sunken, wrinkles deepen, and jowls may develop. These effects are exacerbated by smoking, sun exposure, and genetic factors.

Fortunately, facelifts are a great way to reverse the signs of aging by restoring volume to your face, erasing folds and wrinkles and giving you a more youthful appearance. There are many types of facelifts, such as traditional, deep plane, and midface. The short scar facelift is becoming an increasingly popular option due to its effectiveness and shorter operation time.

How Is a Short Scar Facelift Different from a Traditional Facelift?

In a traditional facelift, an incision is made that begins in the sideburn hair, passes downward and in front of the ear, and curves behind the ear back into the hairline. In a short scar facelift, the incision does not curve behind the ear. This means a shorter operation time, faster healing, and less scarring. In both procedures, an additional incision is often made under the chin and jaw to reshape the neck.

A short scar facelift allows your surgeon to manipulate underlying tissue and address loose skin in the same way as a traditional facelift. It is recommended for patients with mild-to-moderate amounts of loose skin. If you are experiencing heavy facial sagging, your surgeon may still recommend a full facelift. Short scar facelifts can also be combined with liposuction to remove stubborn fat deposits, or fat transfer to contour and fill facial hollows.

Traditional facelifts typically take upwards of 5 hours, but the short scar variety takes around three hours, depending on how many incisions are made. It does still require local or general anesthesia. Also, recovery time is about the same for both procedures, since similar tissues are reshaped. Expect to take 1-2 weeks off from your normal activities.

Many patients are increasingly enjoying the flexibility of alternative types of facelifts. The short scar facelift is a good choice for patients looking for a shorter, simpler version of a traditional facelift. Call our front office to request additional information.
